Christians in Turkey Face Growing Persecution, Report Warns
A new report by the Association of Protestant Churches reveals a surge in hate crimes and government pressure against Christians in Turkey.
The 2024 Human Rights Violation Report documents armed attacks on churches, workplace discrimination, and widespread hate speech—often ignored by authorities. Incidents included shootings at church buildings, threats on social media, and vandalism of Christian property.
Christians also reported police harassment, loss of jobs, denial of rental spaces, and deportations of foreign church workers. The report highlights the closure of church offices, surveillance by authorities, and restrictions on worship and religious education.
Protestants—numbering just over 200 fellowships nationwide—continue to face barriers to legal recognition, worship spaces, and clergy training. The association urged Turkish authorities to uphold religious freedom and end discriminatory practices against Christians.
